Becoming a Registered Nurse

Where do Nurses Work?

Open Letter to Career Counselors

Dear Career Counsellor,

Thank you for your interest in the nursing profession.

The Canadian Nurses Association was founded in 1908. It is a federation of 11 provincial and territorial nurses associations representing more than 120,000 registered nurses. The mission of the Canadian Nurses Association is to advance the practice of nursing in the interest of the public.

The Canadian Nurses Association is predicting a significant shortage of registered nurses in the near future. We have already had reports from provincial and territorial nurses associations of shortages of nurses in rural and remote areas. There is also a shortage of nurses available to work in hospital critical care settings such as intensive care, neonatal intensive care, cardiac care and others. For further information about job postings for registered nurses, you may wish to direct clients to the on-line recruiting registry.
